How it works

How it works

Picture Phonon as a super-secure digital vault for your valuable assets, like a safety deposit box inside a fortified bank vault. Here, a Phonon Card represents the impenetrable vault, and a Phonon is your trusty safety deposit box that safeguards digital assets. Think of transferring a Phonon like moving your deposit box from one ultra-secure vault to another.

Continuing with the vault and safety deposit box analogy...
The Basics - Understanding Phonon
Imagine Phonon as a digital representation of a secret key and asset details, much like your safety deposit box's contents. Its core principles ensure top-notch security:
- Private Key Security: Your secret key remains just that – secret.
- Secure Transfer: Phonons move safely between trusted Phonon Cards.
- Key Deletion: Cards wipe Phonons after sending to prevent duplication.
- Certificate Validation: Cards verify certificates, blocking any sneaky business.
- Encryption: Every transaction is like a sealed envelope, ensuring privacy.

Step 2: Your Impenetrable Vault - The Phonon Card
Your Phonon Card is like a cutting-edge bank vault with Secure Elements/HSMs and a Physically Unclonable Function (PUF) chip. It's got the Phonon Protocol applet and certificates for creating Phonons, just like a bank vault comes with its own deposit boxes.

Step 3: Creating a Phonon - Your ‘cash-like’ Safety Deposit Box
Making a Phonon is as similar to depositing valuable assets into your safety deposit box, which in the case of Phonon, turns the assets into a secure property that can be transferred to another Phonon Card (Vault):
i) Request a new public key from your Phonon card.
ii) Send your digital asset(s) to the Phonon, represented by the corresponding public key address on the blockchain, which is secured on the card by a private key.
iii) Your asset is secured within the Phonon and now available for transfer via the Phonon Protocol.

Step 4: Secure Phonon Transfers
Sending Phonons is like securely moving your safety deposit box, with your deposited assets, from your vault (Phonon Card) to another vault (Phonon Card), without banks, cash, or even an internet connection! It's free, quick, and here's how the Phonon protocol keeps it secure:
i) Verify Certificates: Always check that counterparts have valid certificates before doing business.
ii) Encrypts Communication: Every transaction is like a secret code that only the involved parties can understand.
iii) Unique Invoice IDs: Think of these as special transaction stamps that prevent any kind of sneaky replay tricks.
iv) Builds a Whitelist: The protocol ensures interaction with only trusted Phonons by creating a list of approved ones.

Step 5: Redeeming a Phonon
Moving your asset back onto the blockchain is like taking your valuables out of the deposit box, but with an extra layer of security. It also renders the Phonon non-transferable by destroying the contain.
